Happy Easter. It is finally spring here, and I hope no more freezing weather. Had one about a week ago that got my wisteria blooms. Haven't put out the tomatoes yet, but need to. My garden spot is knee high in winter grass. I do have a few purple Iris blooming and the little mini ones are starting to bloom too.
This past month, March, was a hard one for my cats and me. I finally made the decision to put the two sick ones down and it was very hard to do. Then poor Thumbs got sick and was on his last legs so I took him in and they ran some blood work and said he had a parasite that was curable but he was so debilitated that we could not get a catheter in his veins. We tried and tried, and I came home and got my big cat, Mojo to be a blood donor, and had it all set up but could not get it to run. I wish I had not even tried and just given him a quick and painless exit. By trying so hard I feel like we only hurt him and that was exactly the opposite of what I wanted to do for him. Mojo seemed to know he was helping and was very quiet and never tried to get away or move to much.
So last month I had to bury four cats, I found one of my wild ones dead out in the back near where I was going to bury Jilly and Timmy. He was the oldest alley cat colored tom, about four years old and I could see no marks on him, so don't know what killed him. He was not sick and I'd seen him eating on the porch just a few nights before I found him. A mystery there.
I hope this month I can get the rest of my females spayed, but it looks like Button is already PG. My older Black one, Sheba has had her babies, but I don't know how many, she was huge, tho. I lose some and they keep replacing them! I have got to cut down my numbers as they are eating me out of house and home!
I'm back to the flee battle again, as it has warmed up and they have all started scratching again.
I'm putting up a picture of my Thumbs. He was special. He had four thumbs and rear dew claws, which most cats don't have. He didn't like the other cats much and would not hang out in the house unless it was freezing cold out side. If I was outside, he'd come and follow me around. He'd gotten hung up some how and hurt in his hips and tail, at one time, and didn't like to be held certain ways. I feel so bad about his illness. He was just a kitten when I found him by the dumpster across the road, and started feeding him just to keep him out of the road. My neighbor had promised to get him for her granddaughter, but that didn't happen so he grew up here and liked me. He got fixed but I suspect he might have fathered Skeezics because he was the only one with a dark nose, and Skeeze does to. He was fat and sassy during the snows. He went down pretty fast. I wont let that happen to another one. I can get the interns to test the blood for it. and get the right meds, it might make all the difference.
Rest in peace my boy. I miss you most when I work in the yard. Jilly and Timmy also.
